Morris Chestnut and Donald Faison defend violence in ‘Kick-Ass 2’

theGRIO REPORT - Actors Morris Chestnut and Donald Faison defend the violence in their new film 'Kick-Ass 2'....

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

‘The Best Man’ reunion

Next up in theaters, Chestnut will appear in another highly anticipated sequel, The Best Man Holiday, a film 14 years in the making.

Following a reunion dinner with the cast and director, the whole team pitched and sold the idea to the studio, and Chestnut believes it will be better than the first.

“It feels different because [in] the first movie, we’re just all together and you build chemistry by knowing each other,” Chestnut observes. “When you see that chemistry and that bond on the screen, I think it adds a little bit to everything.”

Faison defends Zach Braff’s Kickstarter, but won’t give money

Faison will soon begin shooting his Scrubs co-star and real-life best man Zach Braff’s new film Wish I Was Here, Braff’s second feature as a writer-director.

Like Spike Lee, Braff reaped considerable criticism for partially financing the film on Kickstarter, raising over $3.1 million from 46,000 supporters.

While Faison confesses he didn’t donate to his “best friend’s” campaign, he doesn’t feel there’s any ethical quandary over Braff’s use of the platform.

“Where is the problem in raising money through a dot-com that is made for you to raise money to make films?” Says the actor. “Before [Braff] did it, not a lot of people knew about Kickstarter. Kickstarter has jumped leaps and bounds.”

Rather than criticize celebrity ventures in crowdfunding, Faison offers an alternative solution: don’t donate.

“If you don’t want to put your money up, don’t put your money up, but don’t be mad at somebody because they figured it out and you didn’t,” he argues.

Admittedly though, Faison won’t be spending his earnings on any director’s project.

He notes, “I didn’t give Zach money for Kickstarter, why would I give anybody else money?”

Kickass 2 opens in theaters on Friday.
