Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Prince, the highly provocative — and infamously private — music legend, has officially made his mark on Twitter.

The “Purple Rain” singer wrote his first tweet on Tuesday, which marked a surprising moment for social media and sent Prince fans in a flurry of excitement.

“PRINCE’S 1ST TWEET … TESTING 1, 2 …” he wrote on his band’s twitter account, 3rdeyegirl. The post attracted over 1,600 retweets.

A minute later, the music star wrote a follow-up post, which read: “PRINCE’S 2ND TWEET.”

For those who considered the tweets a little odd, his third tweet could easily fall in the same category.

It read:

https://twitter.com/3rdeyegirl/status/367449878374268928

Then, he tweeted this:

https://twitter.com/3rdeyegirl/status/367453251433549825

The series of tweets were all sent within a span of 20 minutes and the singer has yet to write another since.

However, despite his recent absence, fans are still reeling from the surprise.

“You guys. PRINCE HAS A TWITTER. ?❤❤?No wonder it’s so cold in stl. Hell froze over,” one follower wrote.

Meanwhile, his abbreviated song names and one-word track titles undoubtedly make for user-friendly hashtags on Twitter, like #IWouldDie4U, #1999, #Adore and #Cream.

Although it is Prince’s first time tweeting, band members have been active on the account since January and, so far, have garnered close to 100,000 followers.

Musician Questlove, from the hip-hop group The Roots, tweeted shortly after Prince’s appearance on Twitter and said: “4 every1 asking me if those tweets were real on @3rdeyegirl. Yes. Does that mean he took over. Entire account? Doubt it.”
