Grammy-Award-winning singer-turned-actress Jill Scott stars alongside Paula Patton in the highly anticipated romantic comedy Baggage Claim.
According to the film’s director, David E. Talbert, the movie seeks to answer the question “How far would you go to find love?” And stars a stellar cast of actors including Boris Kodjoe, Taye Diggs, Derek Luke, Djimon Hounsou, Lauren London, La La Anthony and Trey Songz.
During an interview with theGrio, Scott talked about her role in Baggage Claim and revealed that she is reluctant to take on film roles that require singing.
“I really wanted to separate the two, because I love them both and I wanted to be taken seriously as an actress,” Scott said. “I took on a role like the The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency in order to expand all of my horizons. I just didn’t want to cross-pollinate.”
When asked if she wants to do any film roles where she sings, Scott said, “no, not yet.”
“Unless the character is so left of right, and she happens to sing. And then I have to find a character voice as well. Because I won’t use my voice. I’ll use the voice that comes through this character.”
