In a shocking and uproarious recent Daily Show interview, GOP precinct captain Don Yelton uses the n-word, rails against “lazy blacks” and boasts that voter ID laws are largely in place to suppress Democratic votes.

Yelton’s remarks were so embarrassing for the Republicans that he has resigned since the interview aired.

North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Claude Pope called his statements “completely inappropriate and highly offensive.” Pope also insisted that contrary to The Daily Show‘s reporting, Yelton is not a member of the NCGOP Executive Committee.

The interview, conducted by comedic correspondent Aasif Mandvi, was on the topic of North Carolina’s new voter ID law, over which the Justice Department has sued the state.

Yelton argued that the law wasn’t racist, though he added that he’s “been called a bigot before.”

As Yelton rambled and made off-color remarks about minorities, Mandvi cracks, “You know that we can hear you, right?”
