George Zimmerman arrested in Seminole County, Florida

George Zimmerman, who was acquitted on manslaughter and second degree murder charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, was arrested Monday in Seminole County, Florida.

A news release from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office stated that Zimmerman was arrested after deputies responded to a disturbance call at a home on Topfield Court in Apopka.

It was not clear on what grounds Zimmerman was arrested, and theGrio was awaiting the release of the 911 call and arrest report. Authorities said Zimmerman was being transported to and booked into jail.

Shawn Vincent, a spokesman for Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s trial attorney in the Martin case, told theGrio: “Mark O’Mara is not representing George Zimmerman in today’s matter or any new matters, and as such it is not appropriate for him to make any comments.”

Zimmerman said he shot Martin in self defense in 2012. His estranged wife, Shellie, called 911 in September and police responded to her father’s home in Lake Mary, but no charges were filed. Zimmerman has been pulled over for traffic stops three times since he was acquitted in July, and received a speeding ticket in Florida in September, and a warning from a state trooper in Texas.

TheGrio will have additional details on today’s arrest as they develop.
