Steve Harvey is on a career high right now.

He has two high profile hosting gigs (his self-titled talk show and Family Feud) and his bestselling book. Think Like A Man. is about to spawn its second big screen spin-off.

Still, things have not always been so rosy for the comedian. According to a new cover story in Essence, a $20 million tax lien almost cost him his marriage to his current wife Majorie.

In a piece entitled “A Love Worth the Wait,” Harvey is candid about the toll his tax trouble took on their relationship:

No one has ever even heard this story,’ he says quietly. His confidants at the time all advised him not to tell Marjorie. ‘She’ll leave you,’ they said. ‘This is the happiest we’ve ever seen you,’ they had told him after he married Marjorie, ‘but nobody is going to stick around with this kind of mess.’ Of course, Steve told her. ‘I said, ‘If this woman leaves me over this, I will be the most surprised man on planet Earth.’ “ Marjorie stayed…”
