NBC Nightly News recently aired a troubling report recently on what has become known as “black dog syndrome” == a phenomenon in which dogs with black fur often go unadopted because of misinformed stereotypes.

Black dogs are mischaracterized as mean and potentially violent and according to the report are euthanized at a much higher rate than dogs with different complexions.

Country music legend Emmylou Harris has personally adopted several black dogs of her own to buck the trend. She has turned her Nashville estate into a shelter for unwanted dogs.

“There’s plenty of black dogs out there in shelters waiting for a home,” said Harris.
