theGrio’s 100: Kimberley Harris, behind the scenes savior for NBCUniversal
Who is Kimberley Harris?
A magna cum laude Ivy league graduate, Kimberley Harris made a name for herself working in the White House Counsel’s Office from 2010 to 2012. In that capacity she quarterbacked the Obama administration’s dealings with Congressional investigations. Prior to her work for the president, Harris worked in the Justice Department’s criminal division.
Why is she on theGrio’s 100?
Harris was appointed to be the executive vice president and general counsel for NBCUniversal (the company which, full disclosure, owns theGrio) in July of 2013. She is in charge of the company’s global regulatory and legislative agenda. She also oversees their Law Department which holds sway over the company’s film studio, two broadcast networks, 18 cable channels, 50-plus digital sites, and theme parks. She has also been tasked with coordinated NBCUniversal’s legislative and global regulatory strategies.
What’s next for Kimberley?
“With extensive experience, proven leadership ability, and a track record of success, Kim is a great choice to guide our Law Department,” said NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke at the time of her appointment. Since then she has hit the ground running, helping the network navigate legal terrain while maintaining their status as the premiere place for national news.
