On Valentine’s Day Kevin Hart will have his third film in theaters in the span of just three months, with the release of About Last Night.
In December, the 34-year-old comedian starred alongside Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro in Grudge Match, followed up by the the buddy-cop comedy Ride Along, which has exceeded box office expectations, raking in nearly $100 million in domestic ticket sales.
No doubt about it, Hart is at the top of his game, and there seems to be no stopping him.
During an interview with theGrio, Hart revealed the secret to his Hollywood “it factor” and weighed in on the possibility of hitting a career slump, similar to that of Eddie Murphy.
Murphy rose to stardom in the late 1980s, slipped into relative irrelevance in the early 2000s, reinvented himself as a family-friendly leading man, and attempted to stage a come back multiple times without ever matching the success he had early in his career.
Hart says career slumps happen, but he believes it all about reinventing yourself as an actor.
“It happens,” he said. “It’s not about hitting a slump, it’s about how you get out of it. We’re in a business where you have to constantly recreate yourself. You are looking at a guy who has his own company and who’s his own brand. I create content. I’m a stand-up comedian first, so it doesn’t stop.”
In the upcoming romantic comedy About Last Night, Hart teams up with Regina Hall, Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant in a movie about two new couples navigating through the ups and downs of love.
Hart says at this point in his career, he isn’t focused on how much money he’ll make from starring in a film, but rather the quality of the project.
“At the end of the day hard work pays off,” Hart says “It’s not about the money, it’s about the project.”
