Who is he? 

Jamie Foxx is has been a household name for over a decade, establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s greatest talents. His acting has entertained the masses, his music has moved our feet and his comedy has delivered plenty of laughs. As a Grammy and Academy Award winner, Foxx has established himself to be a force to be reckoned with. Since becoming an A-List star, Foxx has used his popularity to be a positive influence through social activism.

Why is he on theGrio 100? 

Aside from his work in front of the camera and in the recording studio, Foxx has spoken out aggressively against senseless violence. In the aftermath of the controversial death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, Foxx made T-shirts that bore the late teen’s face.

He has also held celebrity fundraising events on behalf of Martin’s family at his home with guests that included Harry Belafonte and Russell Simmons, among others. He eventually presented Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, with a six-figure check to go towards The Travyon Martin Foundation and has continuously supported the family, and their cause, to raise awareness about gun violence.

What’s next for him? 

Foxx’s next big project will be alongside 10-year-old Oscar-nominated actress Quvenzhane Wallis in the remake of the musical Annie. In addition, Foxx has also taken on the challenging movie role as civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in an upcoming biopic to be directed by Oliver Stone.
