Pharrell Williams is arguably at the highest point of his long, successful career in music.
He won multiple Grammys for his work on the blockbuster song “Get Lucky” alongside Daft Punk and next month he will compete for an Academy Award for his Despicable Me 2 song “Happy.”
This March, the super-producer will release his first solo album since 2006’s somewhat poorly received In My Mind.
In a welcome surprise to fans, Pharrell has unveiled the official album art and released a trailer to build buzz for the already highly anticipated release.
“When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind,” said Pharrell in a statement. “One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called GIRL. I hope you like it.”
To those familiar with Pharrell’s work with side group N*E*R*D will be interested to learn that there will the emphasis on this new album will likely be on singing not rapping.
“That’s the difference between 30 and 40. ‘Cause I was 30, now I’m 40 – and I’m not rapping,” he told Rolling Stone last year.
GIRL will be released on March 3rd.
