A lot of people thought Dennis Rodman’s “hoops diplomacy” in North Korea was all a big joke — including, apparently, some producers in Hollywood.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a new comedy film mocking Rodman’s trip, called Diplomats, has been greenlit, with Ride Along director Tim Stroy attached.

The 20th Century Fox film will be produced by Peter Chernin, the man behind the Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock blockbuster The Heat.

Rodman’s trip and close friendship with North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un drew headlines and widespread criticism in January. The NBA Hall of Famer’s antics (a combative CNN interview, singing “Happy Birthday” to the controversial leader) went viral and he later checked himself into rehab for alcohol addiction when he returned to the United States.

No word yet on who’s being considered for the Rodman role or if the lead character will simply be based on “The Worm.”

Some have joked that Rodman himself should be the star of Diplomats, but for those who have seen his one previous attempt at film stardom 1997’s action flop Double Team, the idea is no laughing matter.
