School finds ‘teachable moments’ from Michael Dunn murder trial

Jacksonville, Fla. –Â A Jacksonville, Florida charter school is finding teachable moments from the recent high-profile Michael Dunn murder trial.
Dunn was charged with murdering 17-year-old Jordan Davis. There was a hung jury on the murder charge, but the jury convicted Dunn on three counts of attempted murder.
The Wayman Academy of the Arts is using the trial to help guide young students in the consequences of bad decision making and the importance of making good choices. Investigators say the fatal shooting that took Davis’s life was triggered by loud music.
Pastor Mark Griffin meets often with the 4th and 5th grade boys he mentors. Coach Tony Bunion is also part of the team that counsels students in the importance of making good choices.
“I don’t want you to end up as another Trayvon Martin. I don’t want you to end up as another Jordan Davis,” the pastor told the students who knew all about the murder trial.
