Pharrell Williams may have the hottest song in the country right now, but Rick Ross is still the “boss.”
The polarizing hip-hop star has scored a number one debut with his Trayvon Martin name-checking album Mastermind.
Ross’ album sold 179,000 copies and was his sixth LP to top the Billboard charts. According to Entertainment Weekly, that “puts him in rarefied company, trailing only Nas, Kanye West, Eminem, and Jay Z in terms of hip-hop number ones.”
Meanwhile, Pharrell, bolstered by his chart-topping song “Happy,” saw his second solo album G I R L debut in second with 112,000 copies sold. Although he will have to settle for the silver, the R&B crooner and super-producer can take pride in the fact that his Oscar-nominated track was downloaded a whopping 490,000 times — ranking as 13th best week ever for digital purchases.
