WASHINGTON (AP) — Touting them as “heroes” who are just as “strong and brave” as their parents, Michelle Obama is praising military children who often have to balance homework and caring for siblings with frequent changes of address.

The first lady spoke Wednesday at a White House screening for military families of the Disney movie “Muppets Most Wanted.” She was joined by Gen. Martin Dempsey and film star Kermit the Frog, who said the children were “just as tough” as their parents.

The screening was a part of Joining Forces, a nationwide effort Mrs. Obama and Jill Biden started in 2011 to rally the nation around veterans, active duty service members and their families.

The initiative most recently received pledges from companies to hire nearly 400,000 veterans and their spouses.
