PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The mother of a disabled child is asking for the public’s help after she says a specially designed tricycle was stolen from him as her 17-year-old son was released from the hospital.

Donna Thompson said her son, Wayne, has an extensive medical history.

“He has a tumor on his spine, hydrocephalus on the brain, scoliosis…hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hypertension of the liver,” Thompson said.

Wayne has always dreamed about riding a bike, and recently his physical therapist donated a $7,000 specially-made tricycle that made it possible.

Last week the tricycle was stolen from the boy’s uncle’s house in Providence, Rhode Island. Thompson said she came by the house looking for clues Thursday and discovered that not only was it stolen, the tricycle was taken apart.

Thompson said she’s hoping the public can help. But in the meantime she has a message for whoever might have taken it.

“Shame on you. Shame, shame, shame on you,” she said.
