Response to the kidnapping of schoolgirls comes up short

Protesters in Africa, the US and Europe say the world has failed Nigeria’s kidnapped school girls.

For the first time on Monday, the leader of the terrorist group Boko Haram outlined the reasons behind the kidnapping of some 200 school girls by terrorists in Nigeria.

The group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, said the girls were kidnapped to prevent them from getting a western-style education. And he says on a videotape released to the press that “Allah” told him he should sell the women into marriage.

International policy and business strategist Ozioma Egwuonwu, herself a Nigerian, has been following events closely. She says the world response to the tragedy could have been quicker.
