Inspired from the cassette tapes of the 90’s, theGrio’s B-Side section will be giving emerging artists a platform to share some of their more personal songs with their fan base.

Featuring words from Rhode Island emcee Zumo Kollie, checkout this week’s trippy B-side track, “Park Day”.

The creation of the Park Day video is wild because it almost exactly mirrors the way the song was made. The day I wrote the song, I took a tab of **** and got a ‘trip pack’ of beats from my friend and producer Jeff Gore to provide the soundtrack as I walked through my hometown of Providence, RI. I found a park with turf and laid out for hours, watching the lights downtown and people leaving the nightclubs and started coming up with words. It’s crazy because Travis Satten didn’t know any of this beforehand. All he knew was that we wanted to shoot in 16mm, as part of our Save Film project. Once we started getting shots and I saw how it was coming together, I recognized those mystic forces working for me to tell the story that Travis heard and that I hoped to get across in the song. It’s a simple day in the park, yes. But, if you look and listen closely, everything isn’t always what it seems.
