A New York City teen allegedly jumped into the Hudson River, committing suicide, after she was caught cheating on an exam.

Seventeen-year-old Omotayo Adeoye was caught cheating on a German exam at Harlem’s High School for Math, Science and Engineering, reports the New York Post.

When her teacher, Eva Malikova, saw Adeoye looking at her cellphone, she scolded the teen in front of the class.

The Bronx teen reportedly burst into tears and began apologizing.

“That’s not a sincere apology!” Malikova responded.

The bright student then wrote, “I just want to go away forever on the bottom of the river,” on the back of her exam and asked to use the restroom.

She never returned to the classroom and was seen shortly later walking along the edge of the Hudson River.

Her father told the Post that she does not know how to swim.

Fishermen nearby watched Adeoye enter the river and go under the water. The first 911 call was made shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Police are still investigating.
