Dr. Maya Angelou was honored Saturday during an emotional private memorial service held at Wake Forest University.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate the life of the literary legend while the ceremony was available via livestream for the world to see.

Among the selected speakers were Cicely Tyson, Former Ambassador Andrew Young, Former President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and First Lady Michelle Obama, along with Angelou’s son Guy Bailey Johnson and grandsons Elliott Mathew Jones and Colin Ashanti Johnson.

The touching ceremony was one that brought tears to many as speakers recounted some of their most memorable moments with Angelou.

“There is no mourning,” Johnson said at the service. “We have added to the population of angels.”
