A Cleveland father was arrested earlier this week after he allegedly fired a shot into an apartment following a domestic dispute, hitting his 2-year-old son and killing him.

Derrice Alexander was arrested but has not been charged in the child’s death, reports Fox Cleveland.

Authorities believe Alexander was involved in an argument when his son’s mother early Tuesday morning. He left the apartment but allegedly returned with a gun and fired one shot at the apartment.

After firing the shot, Alexander allegedly fled the scene and dumped the gun, but he was later arrested at a nearby relative’s house.

The victim was identified at a nearby hospital as Derrice Alexander Jr.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams called the incident “senseless.”
