MADISON COUNTY, Georgia — The parents of a 15-month-old girl found next to a highway in Madison County, Georgia, on Friday spoke out Tuesday about charges levied against them.

Denise Pickens and husband, Timothy, say that they’re responsible parents who had simply left the room for a moment when the incident occurred.

“We did not neglect our children; we was with them the whole time; we just stepped outside for a few minutes,” said the father, Timothy Pickens.

While forcefully denying allegations against them, the parents were sure to relay their gratitude to Bryant Collins, the man who found their daughter.

“He’s our angel, you know, we’re thankful to him from the bottom of our hearts,” Denise Pickens said on Tuesday.
