Coming off the heels of Marvel announcing that the Avenger Thor will become a woman for the first time, another change is set to shake up the comic landscape.

Later this year, Steve Rogers will be stepping down as the iconic Captain America and will be replaced by his sidekick, Falcon.

This will be the first time in the mainstream comic universe that an African-American man will wear the costume and its trademark shield.

Joe Quesada, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, made the announcement on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report Wednesday night. Quesada said the new Captain America will debut in October’s Captain America #25 issue.

Granted the power of flight with a modified glider, Falcon made his movie debut this year during the summer movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He was played by Anthony Mackie.
