Thousands rally in Times Square for Michael Brown

theGRIO REPORT - Thousands of people flooded the streets of Midtown Manhattan Thursday night, protesting the shooting death of unarmed teen Michael Brown by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer.

Thousands of people flooded the streets of Midtown Manhattan Thursday night protesting the shooting death of unarmed teen Michael Brown by a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer.

“Hands up, don’t shoot,” and “No justice, no peace,” were chanted by demonstrators as they raised their hands in the air.

The gathering started at Union Square with a moment of silence for the slain 18-year-old.

According to NBC New York, five people were arrested on different misdemeanor charges during the rally, but police report that, overall, the protest was peaceful.

The New York City protest was just one of 100 protests and rallies that took place around the country Thursday.
