ATLANTA — Ne-Yo’s ex-fiancée is making her debut on a brand new reality show that premieres next Monday.

Monyetta Shaw will appear as one of the lead cast members on VH1’s upcoming television series, Atlanta Exes.

The show, a spin-off of the popular Hollywood Exes, focuses on five African-American women who have all split from their celebrity beaus.

Still, the Hollywood version has a lighter touch. You get the feeling most of the “Atlanta Exes” are still nursing broken hearts and coming to terms with going solo.

Shaw parted company with R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo last year. They have two children together, Madilyn Grace Smith, 4, and Mason Evan Smith, 3.

The duo always appeared to be a happily engaged couple until Ne-Yo announced their break up via Instragram.

The show also features Tameka Raymond (Usher’s ex wife), Christina Johnson (Cee-Lo’s ex), Sheree Buchanan (ex-wife of NFL player Ray Buchanan) and Torrie Hart (ex-wife of Kevin Hart).

TheGrio’s Kunbi Tinuoye recently caught up with Shaw at Atlanta’s trendy new black-owned nightspot, Suite Food Lounge, to get the lowdown on the forthcoming show.

Looking stylish in a chic blue jumpsuit, the mother of two, who has recently shed a few extra pounds, talked candidly about this new chapter in her life. Filming has been a “pleasant surprise,” said the reality television newbie, and a chance to develop strong sisterhood bonds.

“All of the ladies are amazingly strong women, and being that my situation is more recent, it’s very refreshing to have that bond with them,” she adds. “It’s very refreshing to have those women that’ve been in the same situation as me.”

Shaw has a cordial relationship with her ex-beau. Her main focus is co-parenting and being an example to her two young children.

Though they are no longer involved in a romantic relationship, the pair still lives under the same roof while they try to figure things out.

“That’s a temporary situation, so you have to watch the show. It was just what worked for us at the time.”

Still, Shaw has more to offer than just being Ne’yo’s ex. She is a college graduate and a businesswoman in her own right. A published author, Shaw is also the founder of The Evan Grace Group, a privately held company that develops and manages global brands in the fashion, entertainment and publishing industry.

VH1’s new series, Atlanta Exes, kicks off with a 2-hour premiere event on August 18th at 9:00 PM ET/PT before moving to its regularly scheduled time Mondays at 9:30 PM ET/PT.
