Robin Roberts launches her own production company

Robin Roberts of Good Morning America has recently launched her own production company, Rock’n Robin Productions, which will create original programs for networks like ABC. These shows will range from documentaries to lifestyle series to live specials to full-length TV series.

The company already has some programs in production, including a Thanksgiving-themed TV special for ABC, two reality show pilots, a digital series for ESPNW and a news documentary.

Rock’n Robin’s first production, In the Game with Robin Roberts, premiers on the ESPNW digital channel today. The pilot episode features lineman Michael Sam, who over the weekend was cut by the St. Louis Rams but has been signed by the Dallas Cowboys to the practice squad. Sam is the first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team.

The company also launched their website today. Rocknrobin.tv will feature behind-the-scenes photos and videos from the production company’s various projects as well as N’Courage, a brand new blog that will recognize and showcase stories of individuals who have risen through difficulties and odds. The blog also aims to encourage readers to do the same.

This new venture spells more job opportunities for individuals with the right skill and talent. While the job opportunities are an after-effect, it happens to be one of the main reasons Robin started the production company in the first place.

Roberts plans to be as hands-on as she possibly can when running the business. “I’m very excited to get involved in the business and development side of production,” she says. She plans to spend plenty of time with her creative team and will be overseeing the company while co-anchoring GMA at the same time.

John Green, longtime ABC news producer, will be her right hand man — running the day-to-day operations of the company as Executive Vice President of Programming and Development. Green is excited about this new venture, saying that working with Robin is a true labor of love.

“I am honored to work with her on this new adventure,” he said, adding that the programming they will produce will, in various ways, reflect who Robin is as a person. Aside from his position at Rock’n Robin, Green will also remain as Executive Producer of Special Programming at ABC news, where he oversees primetime specials in which Roberts anchors.

Roberts also has nothing but kind words for Green, calling him incredibly talented and creative. She also says that they have known each other for fifteen years and have worked on dozens of specials together, making this partnership an exciting one.
