A black woman is upset after a white school guard played what she calls a racist joke on her special needs son.

Brandiss Pearson, as well as her husband and father, were escorting her 12-year-old son Brandon, who has Down Syndrome, to his first day of school at Huntington K-8 School in Eastwood, N.Y.

Pearson, who is a nurse at a local hospital, told Syracuse.com that as they were walking Brandon to his new classroom, they stopped by a mural to take a photo.

As they took photos, Pearson says the nearby security guard instructed her son to turn around and face the wall and put his arms up in a position as if he were being frisked.

She said the guard laughed, saying that now he was in “the right position.”

Pearson filed a complaint with the school district following the incident, and the guard has since been suspended.

The district is currently investigating.
