Fast food strike arrests numbered in the hundreds as workers went on strike Thursday in 150 cities around the U.S.

The workers have been using one-day strikes for the past two years in an attempt to draw attention to low pay and rights to unionize. Their goals are to raise the fast food minimum wage to $15 and receive union recognition without retaliation.

By the end of the day, roughly 500 people around the nation were arrested Thursday, a Fight for $15 spokesperson told the Huffington Post.

Thursday marked the first strike in which organizers encouraged civil disobedience. It also had a widespread reach, including more workers from smaller cities.
