Apollos Hester can go ahead and ink his deal for a nationwide speaking tour now.
The Texas high school senior launched into an incredibly moving post-game speech moments after his team came back from a two-touchdown deficit to win in thrilling fashion.
Hester was asked by Time Warner Cable Austin’s Lauren Mickler how his team was able to win. What followed was interview gold:
Yeah, they had us the first half, I’m not gonna lie, they had us. We weren’t defeated, but they had us. But it took guts, it took an attitude — that’s all it takes. That’s all it takes to be successful is an attitude. And that’s what our coach told us. He said, ‘Hey, it’s gonna be tough. It’s gonna be tough. It’s gonna be hard. You’re gonna go out there, you’re gonna battle, you’re gonna fight, you’re gonna do it for one another. Do it for each other, you’re gonna do it for yourself, you’re gonna do it for us, and you’re gonna go out with this win.’ And we believed that, we truly did. And it’s an awesome feeling.
Hester’s East View Patriots defeated the Vandegrift Vipers Friday night 42-41. Vandegrift held a 28-14 lead at halftime. Yahoo! Rivals lists Hester as a 5’10 wide receiver from Georgetown, Texas.
He’ll have to add viral video star to his list of accomplishments. The interview, which TWC posted to its YouTube channel on Sunday, already has more than 800,000 views.
Towards the end of the interview, Hester looks directly into the camera and offers his best life advice:
You can do anything you put your mind to. Never give up on your dreams. Keep smiling, no matter what you’re going through. If you fall down, just get up. If you can’t get up, your friends are there to help you up. Your mom is there. Your daddy’s there. God’s there. Hey, I’m there. You’re there. It’s going to be alright. Just keep smiling, man.
