LeBron James shows love to 16-year old battling leukemia

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

A young Cleveland Cavaliers fan battling leukemia got a big hug from LeBron James after Cleveland’s Wine and Gold scrimmage on October 1. The 16 year-old Jackie Custer has been undergoing treatment for her cancer since June, enduring a stroke, infection and other complications.

Despite her diagnosis, Custer donated ten inches of her hair to the charity Locks of Love before it would have fallen out due to the treatment. Custer was chosen as one of 18 fans in the packed Quicken Loans Arena — most of whom were there to see James’ return after four years with the Miami Heat — to receive a jersey after the night was over. But she got a lot more than that from King James, who embraced her on the floor after handing her his jersey.

This isn’t the first time James has reached out to a young fan battling cancer. In March, James met high school basketball player Ebony Nettles-Bey, 16, before a Miami Heat game. Ebony warmed up with the team and led them onto the court.

Custer, after receiving the jersey, tweeted her thanks to both LeBron and the Cavaliers, writing, “literally shaking right now @KingJames @cavs thank you so much.”
