‘Sexually Enlightened R&B Song’ is the most honest music video ever

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

A recently released parody video poking fun at traditional R&B lyrics is getting a lot of play on YouTube — and coverage on the web. The humorous track, called simply Sexually Enlightened R&B Song, features a smooth, familiar R&B groove with a significant twist that one might guess from the title: the lyrics are a departure from the male-centric fantasies that have become a staple of the genre.

Instead, the singer in this College Humor production proclaims that he “won’t be like those other guys,” and then goes on to sing, “sex is a conversation, not a lecture.”

The three minute video pokes fun at the one-sided nature of most R&B songs as well as pop music in general. The video, with over 300,000 views in less than 48 hours, seems to be a hit with viewers and bloggers alike. The song ends with the singer crooning that, “this is a dialogue, and constructive criticism is appreciated,” in reference to his aforementioned proclaimed desire to build a healthy, mutually beneficial sexual relationship.
