An 18-year-old high school senior in Mesquite, Texas, died in his sleep over the weekend, apparently of natural causes.

Trey Taulton, a wide receiver on the John Horn High School football team, was discovered Sunday morning in his home. His football coach, Mike Overton, tweeted the tragic news later that day:

The football coach told Devin Hasson of Star Local Media that Taulton was out with friends Saturday night but “was not believed to have shown any health-related signs.”

Hasson reports the team has officially dedicated the rest of its season to Taulton. The team’s official Twitter account posted a picture of Taulton’s now dedicated locker:

Overton described Taulton as a “good kid” and “great teammate.”

Some of Taulton’s teammates have tweeted their tributes:

A FundMe project was started to raise money for Taulton’s family. The page launched on Sunday and, as of Wednesday, has raised nearly $2000 of its $7000 goal.

Funeral services for Taulton will take place Thursday morning at Sunnyvale Baptist Church.
