In a recent interview on the Jim Rome Show, Bo Jackson expressed his thoughts on Florida State University’s Heisman-winning quarterback Jameis Winston.
The star quarterback is no stranger to controversy, and earlier this week, rumblings that Winston may have been compensated for autograph signings surfaced. Jackson, the former NFL and MLB star, said on the show:
I have communicated with him, and I just talked to him like I was his dad. The things that you need to do. And this was before the incident where he was [suspended] from the baseball team [for stealing crab legs].
Since he first arrived at FSU — Winston lead the Seminoles to the BCS Championship in his freshman season — Winston has been investigated for sexual assault, charged with theft, and suspended for FSU’s match-up against Clemson this year for standing on a table in the dining hall and yelling “f**k her right in the pussy.”
“I really don’t know who is giving this young man guidance,” Jackson said.
Jameis Winston is currently being examined by the university for signing autographs that have appeared for purchase through JSA. Todd Gurley, a Georgia running back, was suspended, and an investigation into his alleged paid signings for the company is currently ongoing.
The JSA website currently lists more than 950 autographs from Winston for sale, according to ESPN. Florida State is also investigating the details surrounding the alleged 2012 sexual assault to see if Winston potentially violated the university’s code of conduct.
Jackson, who, like Winston, also grew up in Bessemer, Alabama, said, “Jameis Winston needs to make some changes in his life. Because it’s affecting him now, and it’s definitely going to affect him down the road.”
