A new video ad titled “No Honor in Racism” denounces the name of the Washington Redskins, comparing it to other racial slurs.
The video is a joint project between Red Circle Agency and the National Coalition Against Racism in Sports and Media. The 30-second spot was uploaded to YouTube and starts with a black woman staring at the camera and saying, “I am a N*****.”
It is then followed up by other people of varying ethnicity and cultural background referring to themselves by racial slurs. The slurs are all censored.
Text on-screen in the middle of the ad says of the words: “They’re all so unacceptable they’ve been banned from television.”
Following the text, a Native American man appears and says “I am a Redskin.”
The word is not bleeped out. It is followed by the message “This is equally profane. #changethemascot.”
The description of the video on YouTube reads:
The word ‘redskins’ is racist and profane. Get involved by sharing this video with friends, letting the NFL and the Washington football team know what you think, or contacting the FCC and asking that the word ‘redskins’ be banned from the public airwaves. #ChangeTheMascot
The spot was released last week on Red Circle Agency’s YouTube channel.
