Woman stole car with 91-year old grandmother inside
Richmond Heights, MO — A Missouri woman has been charged with felonious restraint and theft of a motor vehicle for allegedly stealing a car while a 91-year old grandmother was still inside the vehicle.
The theft occurred in the parking lot of a health center in September, with the suspect allegedly pretending to be a valet attendant to steal the already occupied car.
The victim’s granddaughter, Dewand Marion, handed the suspect the keys and went inside the center for a visit. Roberta Terri Hamilton, 38, told Marion that she was a valet. However, when Marion returned, she found that her 2013 Dodge Charger was missing. Marion said, “It was not 15 minutes that I came back down and my car was gone and my grandmother was gone.”
The kidnapped woman, identified as the soon-to-be-92-year-old Essie Sims, was found shortly thereafter at a service station. An unidentified person riding a nearby bus phoned the granddaughter about Sims’ location using the elderly woman’s cell phone. Sims was walking along the road alone with her cane.
Despite recovering her grandmother, Marion says that the incident has hurt Sims’ health greatly, noting that she hopes that Hamilton is punished for her actions. Marion said, “I really think she should suffer. I really think she should know and I really wish she could see what’s she’s done to my grandmother.”
Marion also indicated that her grandmother was in the hospital, according to Fox News St. Louis.
The car was also recovered but was damaged during the theft.
