A violin cover of Taylor Swift’s mega pop hit “Shake it Off” has drawn rave reviews online and racked up more than 160,000 YouTube views since last week.
The cover, titled “Shake it Off – Chargaux Violin Cover (Killed It),” features musicians Jasmin “Charly” Charles and Margaux Whitney performing under the portmanteau Chargaux.
During the cover, one of the women plays the vocal melody line while the other accompanies her with an emulation of the other instruments.
Margaux told the Huffington Post that “I think it’s very common when you have a creative mind to have various outlets for it. Even the way that we dress adds to the visual portion, using our bodies as canvases and having it all connect.”
The cover has garnered attention from a number of prominent media outlets, with Time dubbing the cover “really catchy. But also classy.” The Brooklyn pair also received praise from Cosmopolitan, which called it a “perfect cover.”
This is the first cover uploaded to the duo’s YouTube channel; the only other video posted to their account is of them performing a song called “Lullaby” at an independent Brooklyn art show.
