The trailer for the highly anticipated Star Wars sequel, titled Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens was just recently released, and one character in particular has some fans up in arms.
John Boyega, a British actor, is seen in the trailer wearing the iconic Stormtrooper suit, though it’s unclear if he is meant to be playing a Stormtrooper or if his character is simply disguised as one, the way Luke Skywalker and Han Solo did in the original Star Wars movie.
Either way, some fans have been upset at a black actor donning the suit, and Boyega has handled the criticism with cheeky charm. “Thank you for all the love and support! The fan mail and fan art has added to my joy!” he said on Instagram, adding, “To whom it may concern…Get used to it. :)”
The trailer for the J.J. Abrams reboot has already amassed over 40 million views as the excitement for the movie heats up.
