ABC News correspondent Mara Schiavocampo is on a new journey to inspire people to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
In her new book, Thinspired: How I Lost 90 Pounds — My Plan for Lasting Weight Loss and Self-Acceptance, Schiavocampo, 35, shares how she went from tipping the scales at 230 pounds to her now healthy weight — and formulas for her success plan.
Instead of focusing strictly on “Do’s” and “Dont’s,” she says it’s essential to eliminate the foods that have a control over you.
In Thinspired, which is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and hits shelves December 30, Schiavocampo opens up about a painful time in her life when she suffered a debilitating eating disorder.
“It was terrible; it was probably the darkest time of my life,” she told theGrio.com. “Very few people have known that about me; even my family is learning about it for the first time in this book.”
Shiavocampo, who regularly appears on ABC’s Good Morning America, says her eating disorder was triggered from seeing herself for the first time as a reporter on TV.
“I was 22-years-old, and it coincided with my first job on-air, and that wasn’t a coincidence. Seeing myself on-camera really freaked me out. I had a really hard time dealing with it, and it was a lot of stress and pressure and it was awful, I felt like I was controlled by some terrible beast and I had no control over my life.”
Fast-forward to today, and Schiavocampo is seemingly on top of the world, successully juggling a marriage, a beautiful 3-year-old daughter, and a demanding TV career.
She lost nearly 100 pounds in 2 years and is now stronger, fitter, and happier than ever and wants her readers to be Thinspired too.
