Ft. Lauderdale, FL — A young man was being processed by Florida police when suddenly, the officer processing him collapsed. His quick thinking and help in the matter probably saved the officer’s life, and now, he and three other officers will be publicly honored next week for their heroics.

Jamal Rutledge was being processed for violation of his probation for criminal mischief and burglary when Officer Franklin Foulks collapsed, grasping his chest. Rutledge kicked the security fence and yelled for help, bringing two officers over to investigate the noise.

Officers Robert Norvis and Raymond Ketchmark were sent to the scene, and upon seeing Foulks on the ground, Norvis began to cut away Foulks’ shirt, and Ketchmark used a defibrillator and kept in contact with fire rescue.

The medical staff say that Rutledge’s quick thinking, paired with the officers’ fast response and actions, saved Foulks’ life.
