Kendrick Johnson's parents appear in court for protest arrest
theGRIO REPORT - The parents of Kendrick Johnson will appear in court Monday for charges of civil disobedience.
The parents of Kendrick Johnson will appear in court Monday for a past charge of civil disobedience.
Kenneth and Jacquelyn Johnson are accused of blocking the entrance to the county courthouse during a 2013 protest, according to WXIA. They were protesting against the investigation into the death of their son, Kendrick, who had been found dead rolled up inside a gym mat.
The parents have since filed suit against the Valdosta police chief, the director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and three of Kendrick’s classmates, as well as 33 other people. The suit totals $100 million. They have also sued school officials in a wrongful death lawsuit.
Initially, Kendrick’s death was ruled accidental, with officials declaring that he had entered the mat to retrieve a shoe and gotten stuck, eventually asphyxiating.
However, an independent pathologist investigated later and found evidence of blunt force trauma to the teen’s neck.
