A member of the R&B group Jagged Edge was arrested in Atlanta Thursday morning following a domestic dispute with his fiancée.

In a written statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta Police Department confirmed the arrest of Kyle L. Norman after they were notified of “a fight call between an engaged couple.”

Authorities said upon arriving at the address they first talked to a female victim “who was visibly shaken”

The woman, who remains unidentified, told officers Norman had punched and choked her, shoved her engagement ring down her throat, broke her cellphone, took her car keys and would not let her leave. She said the incident started following an argument about drinking.

Norman’s fiancée was eventually able to grab his cell phone and flee the apartment when the singer turned his back. She woke up a neighbor and was able to call for help.

She was taken to a nearby hospital with multiple injuries, including: a knot on her forehead, cut to her nose, welts under her eyes, and a blood clot in her right eye.

Norman was seen by police fleeing the residence on foot. When officers caught up to him, the 38-year-old shouted “I need to go to jail.” According to AJC, Norman added “he was upset about his dad having cancer and that’s the reason he got so mad at his fiancée.”

Norman was charged with aggravated assault and is currently being held at Fulton County Jail.

Norman rose to fame as a member of Jagged Edge. The group, which included Norman as well as Brian and Brandon Casey and Richard Wingo, started making waves in the music industry in the late 90’s, scoring major hits in the early 2000’s with 2000’s “Let’s Get Married” and 01’s “Where The Party At.”
