Ex-NFL star Warren Sapp arrested in Phoenix, fired by NFL Network
PHOENIX (AP) — The NFL Network says it has terminated its contract with former NFL lineman and Hall of Famer Warren Sapp, who was arrested Monday on suspicion of soliciting a prostitute and allegedly assaulting two women.
Police in Phoenix say Sapp was taken into custody Monday at a downtown Phoenix hotel and booked into jail. He made his initial appearance before a Phoenix Municipal Court judge and was released pending a Feb. 23 court date. He could face a maximum penalty of $2,500 in fines, six months in jail, three years’ probation and mandatory 15 days in jail if convicted on the prostitution charge.
Sapp played in the NFL from 1995-2007 for Tampa Bay and Oakland. He had been an analyst for NFL Network since 2008 and was in Arizona to cover the Super Bowl.
