On Sunday night, the district attorney reviewed a case involving a 2-year-old girl who was fatally mauled by a pit bull mix inside a home.
The toddler, Tay’lynn DeVaughn, and her father, Cory DeVaughn, were at his sister’s home in West Mifflin at the time of the attack.
“I came out of the kitchen and the dog dropped the baby. His name was Jake and my baby was gone,” the girl’s father told WPXI.
DaVaughn called 911, but the medics could not save the toddler. She was pronounced dead at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
“We know deep down inside, she’s looking down on us,” DeVaughn said. “She has a lot of people that love her a lot. People all over love my baby.”

The family was visiting DeVaughn’s sister. Sunday was only the second time little Tay’lynn DeVaughn had been around the dog. DeVaughn went on to say that everyone is hurting right now and that he does not blame the owners.
The dog has been quarantined for 10 days. After that, it is not immediately clear what will happen. According to County Lt. Andrew Schurman, the district attorney will need to decide whether charges should be pressed.
