Isaiah Washington to Chris Rock: 'Adapt' to racial profiling

theGRIO REPORT -

Over the last seven weeks, comedian Chris Rock claims he’s been pulled over by police on 3 separate occasions – and he posted the images on his social media accounts to prove it.

Actor Isaiah Washington saw the selfies and gave Rock some unsolicited advice on Twitter:

I sold my $90,000.00 Mercedes G500 and bought 3 Prius’s, because I got tired of being pulled over by Police. #Adapt @chrisrock

Washington immediately took some heat for the tweet, with some claiming his “adapt” comment was a form of accepting a problem, rather than trying to solve it.

Music and culture guru Questlove even weighed in on Twitter:

Prius won’t save you from #DWB @IWashington i know. trust.

Wednesday, Washington sought to clarify his remarks on CNN with host Don Lemon:

“I know a lot of people take issue with the hashtag ‘adapt,’ thinking I was implying that white supremacy or racial profiling was stopped if you were in a different car, but that’s not [what I meant],” he told Lemon. “Police are about the business of policing, night and day. … I really feel that he needs to look at the area that he’s in and even visit with the police in the local community.”

Washington said he was trying to “excite a conversation” with his #adapt and subsequent tweets. His tweet to Rock coincided with April Fools Day. But Washington was serious.

Washington’s latest film Blackbird will be released later this month.
