During a Greenwich Village robbery, a homeless man allegedly threatened a pregnant woman and her unborn child, saying he would slash her and the baby. He has since been arrested on Friday.

The 49-year-old Melvin Johnson followed his victim into a Bank of America and told her, “I’ll cut you and your baby if you don’t give me some money.” He used a blunt metal object to threaten the 35-year-old woman.

She complied with his demands and withdrew $400.

On Tuesday, police identified Johnson as a suspect, and they caught up with him on Friday after they were tipped as to his whereabouts. He has been charged with robbery.

This is not Johnson’s first run-in with the police, as he had 24 prior arrests, including two robberies for which he spent time in prison.
