Two Troy University students have been arrested on charges related to a gang rape captured on a cell phone camera that has been described by one sheriff as the “most disgusting, sickening thing” he had ever seen.

The video was discovered during an investigation into an unrelated shooting. The footage was found on a suspect’s cell phone, and Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen said the footage was “sickening,” especially because none of the hundreds of bystanders did anything about it.

“This is happening in broad daylight with hundreds of people seeing and hearing what is happening and they are more concerned about spilling their beer than somebody being raped,” he fumed.

In the video, an unresponsive woman is lying on a beach chair as multiple men touch her genital regions. One man says in the video, “She isn’t going to know.”

McKeithen said that in addition to identifying two suspects, Delone’ Martistee, 22, and Ryan Austin Calhoun, 23, police were able to track down the woman and talk with her.

According to McKeithen, the victim had not reported the attack because she believed she had been drugged and was afraid she did not remember enough of what had happened to make a report.

“This is such a traumatizing event for this girl. No one should have to fear this would happen in Panama City Beach, but it does,” McKeithen said.
