After a man struck and killed a 2-year-old with his car, he was “distraught” as he stopped the vehicle and hopped out. Moments later, he was shot and killed, along with a 15-year-old boy.

40-year-old Archie Brown, who was known as a staple in society and had often opened his doors to the homeless, was driving his van down the street when 2-year-old Damani Terry darted into the road. Brown hit the toddler, who was killed.

Brown got out of his car immediately after hitting Terry, and that’s when, according to his friend Homer Blow, a man came out to tell Brown that he had signed his own death warrant before shooting Brown in the face.

“Just to hear how this coward took my friend’s life in cold blood for doing the right thing…” Blow said.

15-year-old Rasheed Chiles, who was the brother of the dead toddler, was also shot and later died at the hospital. It is unclear why he was also killed.

A woman who was at the scene described what happened:

“I’m going ‘the baby, the baby!’ The baby was midway in front of the car. The man couldn’t see him because he was in front of a car. When the man knew he had hit something, he got out to see and when he saw it was a baby, he became very distraught,” the woman said.

“I heard the bullets and I saw (Brown) fall. I heard the bullets and I saw (Brown) fall. I have been reliving this since I woke up,” she added.

Police are currently working to identify the shooter.
