Couple's wedding reservation canceled because of Redskins training camp

Christopher Charity and Cecilia Hall are getting married this summer, and while this is the most exciting and happy time in their lives, it doesn’t come without its share of obstacles.

But they certainly weren’t expecting to get a call from the Omni Richmond Hotel to tell them their wedding reception reservations had been cancelled in favor of the hotel hosting the Redskins for their training camp.

“It’s a major disappointment. And when you get a phone call from your fiancé, crying, because she was made aware of this and it’s pretty much 90 days before her wedding. It’s the most horrible news you can imagine,” Charity said.

Although the hotel refunded their $11,000 and gave them an additional $800 to help pay for the cost of booking somewhere else, the couple felt that they had been wronged more than a simple refund could fix.

“If we’re forced to go somewhere else, because you want the Redskins to be in your hotel and that means more to you, then we feel like, you know, the compensation should be a lot more than what they’re offering right now,” said Charity.

When the Redskins learned that the hotel, which needed the ballroom and bedrooms booked by the couple in order to host their team, had turned out the future newlyweds, they offered their own condolences: sideline passes to a home game of their choice. Charity is already planning on using the passes for the December match against the Cowboys.
