Body of missing track star Timothy Hamlett found in Hudson River

The body of a New Jersey track star who had been missing for five months was finally found in the Hudson River, according to officials.

The family of 20-year-old Timothy Hamlett, of Teaneck, said that his body was pulled out of the river on Friday and that the cause of death was determined by the New York City medical examiner’s office to be suicide by drowning, reports NBC New York.

Hamlett, a sprinter on the University of Pennsylvania’s track team, was last seen on December 26 after telling his parents that he was going to visit a friend.

Hamlett’s parents say that their son suffered a severe change in his personality because of athletic, dietary and male-enhancement drugs that he was taking. He had been charged in September with throwing bricks through three parked cars as well as nine windows of homes and at the time of his disappearance was on leave from the University of Pennsylvania.

His parents have also expressed their love and gratitude for the support they have received. On the Facebook page they created to help find their son, they wrote, “Please know that we are comforted by your prayers, support, the wonderful memories of extraordinary joy that we shared with our son, and of course, God’s healing grace and love.”
