The Golden State Warriors are giving a pair of tickets to Game 1 of the NBA Finals to one of their most loyal fans — 105-year-old “Sweetie.”
According to the Oakland Tribune, the team found out about their lifelong fan after representatives read her story in the paper.
“Sweetie” will watch Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers from a suite in Oracle Arena.
Warrior’s head coach Steve Kerr told the press :
What a great story … 105 years old, following the Warriors for all these years. I loved her message: ‘Don’t get the swell head.’ That’s always our message to the guys, but Sweetie had a better way of putting it than I did. From what I gather, we’re going to have her at Game 1, which I’m really excited about.
“Sweetie,” who is set to turn 106 on June 12, said she’s excited to attend the upcoming game but added some constructive criticism for the players after last week’s win.
“Oh, I did like that last game,” she told the Tribune Friday. “I loved it, but it made me kind of angry because I wanted to slap them boys for playing so sloppy in the first half. I enjoyed every bit of it.”
